Diabetes Nurse at the Diabetes and Endocrinology Clinic

NU Healthcare is part of the Västra Götaland Region and is one of Sweden's larger county hospitals. We are located at NÄL (Northern Älvsborg County Hospital) in Trollhättan and Uddevalla Hospital. The hospital's catchment area includes 280,000 inhabitants. Together, we are about 5,000 employees who work every day to provide good and safe specialist healthcare. About the Department

The Diabetes and Endocrinology Clinic works with doctors, nurses, social workers, dietitians, and foot specialists in close collaboration with the patient. We have clinics for physical visits at both NÄL and Uddevalla Hospital. The clinic primarily follows patients with type 1 diabetes but also some with type 2 diabetes. The majority of our patients have FGM or CGM, and treatment with insulin pumps is common.

In the near future, we will begin working with a contact nurse in endocrinology/hyperthyroidism at the clinic. Currently, we perform some testing at the endocrinology clinic, such as the synacthen test, and we have telephone counseling regarding treatment, test results, etc., for endocrine patients. In 2026, we will begin receiving a new patient group, namely individuals who have been started on treatment for gender dysphoria and follow-up of that treatment.

Responsibilities for the Diabetes Nurse

We are looking for someone interested in supporting individuals with diabetes and/or endocrine diseases and helping them find the technical aids that facilitate daily life. It is important that you are interested in and updated on the technical equipment. Responsibilities include educating patients on how to use aids correctly, interpreting and analyzing glucose curves, adjusting insulin doses, making pump adjustments, prescribing aids, and coordinating routine checks. The focus is on the patient's self-care. Responsibilities at the clinic consist of individual consultations and telephone counseling for patients and healthcare personnel who encounter individuals with diabetes in their work. We have a number of digital healthcare meetings and work in Vård och Hälsa. We use the patient administrative systems Melior and ELVIS. Since we have a large number of patients with insulin pumps and CGM, we also work with Glooko and CareLink System, as well as individual and group patient education.

In our telephone counseling, we also take calls from individuals with endocrine diseases.

Qualifications

We are looking for a licensed nurse with further education in diabetes (at least 15 credits) or a licensed nurse with a specialist nursing degree in diabetes. If you have further education in endocrinology, this is an advantage. You are interested in and have good knowledge of technology and data. You have a holistic view of the patient, are responsible, and work in a structured way. You are used to working independently and making your own decisions but also to work in a team around the patient. You appreciate close contact with the patient and are engaged and want to help develop patient-centered care at the clinic.
